Description
eCache
*Karkku’s Wizard (designed eCache that lets you customize an incredibly cool electronic cache yourself. This set includes the main control unit, keyboard, light indicator, display, and push button. As a skilled user, you can replace the keyboard with additional buttons, hidden switches, sensors, or anything that can perform a press. The correct code activates a relay, so instead of the display, you can use an electric lock, various lights, or even a party blower. The possibilities are truly endless in capable hands.
In the future, additional modules may become available for this device if there is general demand.
Features
– The device can be programmed with a sequence of up to 20 presses using up to 16 different keys. The correct solution may require either the exact sequence of presses, correct lengths of pauses between taps (allowed pause range 150 ms – 1 second) — for example, when using a single key and a “secret tap” — or a combination where both the keys pressed and the pause lengths must be correct.
– For time-based presses, an overall timing error margin of 15% is allowed, and for individual presses, 25%. After an incorrect press, there is a 10-second pause before another attempt can be made.
– The cache can be set to always-on mode with the “Power Always On” switch. If the always-on mode is not used, the device is turned on with the “Power On” switch and automatically turns off about a minute after the user stops using it. The “Power Always On” mode can also be used in situations where the cache’s power supply is switched on and off independently of the cache itself, for example, a hatch with a switch.
– After the correct solution is entered, the programmed coordinates are displayed on the screen, the LED indicator lights green, and the relay activates. The device returns to the default state either after a selectable time delay or by using the “Return to Normal” switch.
– The LED lights yellow when the device is in the default state, green when the correct code is entered, and flashes red for 10 seconds after an incorrect code is entered.
– The input can be done either via a keyboard or separate buttons. Supports up to 16 buttons. The buttons are connected in a matrix style between connectors A-D and E-H. The instruction diagram shows connection pins corresponding to the keyboard, but in your own setup, it is not necessary to follow this if you don’t need the keyboard and your buttons to correspond.
– The device does not require a keyboard, display, or indicator light to be connected for operation; you can connect only the components you need. However, for programming, the display and keyboard must be connected.
– The device is delivered with the setting “only correct buttons,” correct solution delay set to “0,” and code [1] [2] [3].
Warnings and notes
– The device’s PIN code cannot be changed or reset, as it is permanently programmed into the device. This prevents the device from becoming unusable due to PIN code changes or forgetting the code, and ensures that outsiders cannot access the device’s settings. Keep the PIN code provided with the device safe and protected from unauthorized access.
– Disconnect the device’s connectors by pulling the connector from the housing; do not pull the wires.
– The device’s power supply includes a reverse-protection diode to guard against current spikes caused by inductive loads. The power supply is otherwise unprotected, so special attention must be paid to the correct polarity of the voltage.
– The keyboard connector fits in both ways. The correct keyboard orientation is when the smooth side of the connector faces the screw terminals. A keyboard connected the wrong way won’t damage anything but will not function properly.
– If you install the LED or display module so that the wires go straight backward instead of downward, bend the wires very carefully. Support the wire connection point on the module with your finger and gently bend the wires.
– In the implementation, the device’s weather protection must be taken into account, and ideally, all electronics should be placed in a weatherproof enclosure. Although the device’s electronics and design have been tested outdoors year-round since 2016—protected from rain inside a well-ventilated enclosure without additional weatherproofing—condensed water will inevitably cause corrosion over time. This test only shows that the device is not extremely sensitive and can withstand Finnish winter cold and summer heat.
Programming mode
– To enter programming mode, switch the “Power Always On” mode on (if it’s not already on), then press the programming mode switch. After that, select one of the settings below.
– In programming mode, returning from a setting to the main menu without saving, as well as exiting the main menu to normal mode, is done by pressing the [C] (cancel) key.
- Selections are confirmed by pressing the [D] (ok) key, which saves the entered information and returns the device to the main menu, except when option 9 is selected, which takes the device directly to entering a new press sequence.
[1] Coordinate input mode (Edit text)
– The position of the character to be entered blinks.
– You can enter a number using the number keys, which moves the cursor to the next character, or press the [#] key to move to the next character without entering a number.
– Special characters period, space, degree symbol, and N, S, E, W are entered by repeatedly pressing the [*] key. When the correct character appears, press the [#] key to move the cursor to the next character.
– Finally, save the entered data by pressing the [D] key.
[2] Operating mode (Mode)
1) Only the correct typing speed is required (can be used, for example, with a single button).
2) Only the correct buttons are required.
3) The correct typing speed with the correct buttons is required.
– Finally, save your selection by pressing the [D] key.
[3] Correct solution mode delay (Delay)
– Enter a value of 0 or a time between 1–99 seconds. If the previous value was two digits and you want to enter a single-digit value, use a leading zero like 00 or 05.
– Note that when using automatic power-off, the device turns off after about one minute. With higher values, the device effectively remains in the correct solution mode until the power shuts off.
– With a value of 0, the device does not exit the correct solution mode until commanded by the “Return to Normal” switch. If the device loses power, it naturally returns to the default state.
– Finally, save your selection by pressing the [D] key.
[9] Enter a new press sequence (New code)
– The cache switches to waiting for presses
– Press your desired code and then wait just over a second; the cache will indicate that the press has been saved and will return to the default mode.
– After finishing programming, turn off continuous power if necessary.
– Note: Since all 16 keys are used for the press sequence, you cannot exit this mode with the [C] key. If you accidentally selected this mode, do not press anything; exit by turning off the device’s power.
